Gold Galore! Blessing Okagbare Makes History Again, Wins Gold Medal In Women 200M At On Going 2014 CommonWealth Games, Esen Brume Wins Long Jump

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy! Nigeria's Blessing Okagbare has this evening won the women's 200m at the on going Commonwealth games at Glasgow, Scotland.
The 26 year old athlete, trained by sprinting legend Maurice Green's (USA) trainer John Smith won the race in a time of 22.25 seconds.
England's Jodie Williams and Bianca Williams were second and third respectively.
Okagbare who had few days ago clinched the gold in the women's 100 meters set out to win a treble at the on going CWG, namely in the 100meters, 200meters, and long jump.
Unfortunately she had to opt out of the long jump as the finals was set on the same night as the women's 200 meters final.

Team Nigeria has climbed to the eighth position in the medals’ table -with 6 gold, 5 silver and 8 bronze medals at the ongoing 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
The medals came from Athletics, TableTennis, Weightlifting & Wrestling.
Yesterday evening through Maryam Usman, Nigeria won another gold medal in the +75kg of women’s powerlifting event at the ongoing Commonwealth games.
Usman, who beat reigning Commonwealth champion, Ele Opeloge of Samoa who came second and Tracey Lambrechs of New Zealand who settled for bronze medal, lifted a total of 280kg after lifting 125kg in snatch and 155kg in clean and jerk.
Similarly, Team Nigeria added two more golds to their kitty same night with the victories of Odunayo Adekuoroye in the women’s 53kg wrestling final and Aminat Adeniyi in the 58kg class.

Potiskum Twin Blasts: Hospital Official Says 13 Killed, 35 Injured

Following Tuesday night’s twin bomb blast that rocked the town of Potiskum in Yobe State, officials said that at least 13 people have been killed while 35 others sustained serious injuries.
Eyewitnesses at the Potiskum General Hospital had confirmed that most of the victims who survived were rushed into the accident and emergency wards bleeding from various degrees of injuries sustained at the scenes of the blasts.
A hospital source, who craved anonymity, said, “I participated in receiving the victims; and we have 13 dead ones and 35 injured persons that were brought in here at night on Tuesday; some of the injured persons with critical cases like third degree burnt have since been referred to Azare Federal Medical Centre for proper care”.

Landlady's Children Rob Tenant, Cut Off Scrotum In Lagos

A 35-year-old man, Yinka Offehin, is battling for his life at a private hospital in Lagos State after his scrotum was cut by the children of his landlady.
The Edo State indigene, who resides on Popoola Street, off Abaranje Road in the Ikotun area of Lagos, was said to have been attacked while sleeping in his room with his family members.
His wife, Bisi, who was with him when the incident happened, identified the assailants as Solomon and Damilola, the children of the landlady.

Shocking: 10 Year Old Female Suicide Bomber Arrested With Explosive Belt Strapped To Her Body In Katsina

A 10 year old female suicide bomber has been arrested along side two others, Coordinator of National Information Centre, Mr Mike Omeri has revealed.
Omeri said security forces stopped a car in Kano’s neighbouring state of Katsina today and arrested the three suspected Boko Haram members.
The group included one male and two girls, aged 18 and 10.
The older two tried to flee, according to Omeri’s statement.

Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Kenneth Minimah, has said that officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army will soon be kitted with new sets of uniforms to differentiate them from impostors.

A female suicide bomber has today Wednesday 30th July blew herself up at College of Islamic and Legal studies, Kano while students were checking their results in the school.
The blast is said to have occured around 2:45pm.
Kano State Police Command has confirmed the blast in the school.
As at press time the number of causalities could not be confirmed.

FG Launches New 64-page Nigeria E-passport, Increases Price

To ameliorate the sufferings of heavy Nigerian travelers, the Federal Government on Wednesday launched the new 64-page Nigerian e-passport.
The new travel document will be in use with the existing 32-page e-passport.
President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo were issued their new passports after their data were captured before the Federal Executive Council meeting started at the State House, Abuja.
Jonathan urged the immigration officers to be efficient and committed as the impression they give visitors at the point of entry like the airports determine the perception the country gets.
He also tasked the service to do everything possible to end the complaints of Nigerians abroad by making it easier for them to get Nigerian passports.

They  have reportedly cried out that they have been cheated by their community leaders in the sharing formula.
The Presidency allegedly handed over the money to leaders of the Chibok community in Abuja for onward presentation to parents of the abducted schoolgirls.
According to a report monitored on Hausa service of the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, some of the parents are now alleging that the Abuja-based community leaders have shortchanged them.

Police Arrest Boy That Turned To Cat In Rivers State

Pandemonium broke out in Iwofe, Rumuolumeni in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State on Monday, and residents thrown into confusion after a 10-year-old boy said to have turned into a cat to witch-hunt a family in the community was apprehended.
Residents say a cat jumped into a room from nowhere while the occupants were wide awake. The cat was said to have transformed to a boy as they were planning on how to chase out what they thought was a mere cat.
On seeing that the cat had turned into a young boy, the occupants of the room screamed to attract their neighbours who came to their aid.

The Federal Road Safety Corps this afternoon released photos and more details from the accident that claimed Nasir El-rufai's son's life earlier on today.
According to the FRSC, the accident happened at about 5:30am today, and involved two persons. However, only Hamza lost his life.

Cameroon Rescues Wife Of Vice Prime Minister Amadou Ali Kidnapped By Boko Haram

Security operatives in Cameroon have rescued wife of Vice Prime Minister Amadou Ali who was kidnapped by the Boko Haram sect on Sunday along with a traditional ruler of Kolofata town, reports BBC Hausa Service.
The reports say that 16 people lost their lives in the rescue operations, although Cameroon information minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary said government was still investigating the matter to ascertain the actual number of people killed.
The Boko Haram members carry out attacks in northern part of Cameroon from Nigeria where they established their base in the Sambisa Forest.

Two female suicide bombers struck in different parts of Kano on Monday, killing  and injuring many on a day Muslim faithful thronged the prayer grounds in the city to observe the Eid-el-Fitri.
The first attack took place at about 10am on a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Mega station   at Hotoro Quarters along Maiduguri Road. The second was at about 1.40pm at the Trade Fair Complex entrance on Zoo Road.
But there were conflicting figures on the numbers of the killed and injured.

Ebola Virus: 59 Placed On Close Surveillance

Lagos State Government has disclosed that at least 59 people that had contact with the late Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian citizen that died of Ebola virus Lagos last week have been placed on close surveillance.
The state Commissioner for Health Dr. Jide Idris, disclosed this on Monday at a press briefing held in conjunction with Federal Ministry of Health officials at the Staff Clinic in Alausa.

Boko Haram Militants Seize Cameroon Vice PM's Wife

Boko Haram militants attacked Kolofata, a town in Cameroon's Far North Region near Nigeria, on Sunday and seized several people including the wife of Cameroon's Vice Prime Minister Amadou Ali, a military commander in the region said.
"The situation is very critical here now, and as I am talking to you the Boko Haram elements are still in Kolofata town in a clash with our soldiers," said Colonel Felix Nji Formekong, the second commander of Cameroon's third inter-army military region (RMIA3) based in the regional headquarters Maroua.

Breaking! Bombblast Kills Worshippers At St Charles Catholic Church, Kano

A bomb as gone off  at St Charles church, Zungeru Road, Sabon Gari about  1 hour ago.
Bomb was planted close to the church entrance because of security operatives in churches. The bomb exploded as worshipers were coming out leaving mangled bodies lying around.
As at press time, 5 worshipers were confirmed dead and 8 others including security men injured.

Suspect Of Kaduna Explosion Targeted At Buhari Arrested While Disguising As A Woman

The Defence Headquarters on Friday said that troops in Kaduna have arrested a man suspected to be connected with the explosion targeted at General Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday.
The information was contained in a statement posted on Defence headquarters web site
The statement said that the young man was apprehended by military patrol team that swooped on the area immediately after the explosion.
The statement said that he disguised as a woman clad in female garb to exude femininity with a brazier affixed to his chest.
“The suspect was arrested while trying to fizzle into a crowd of onlookers when the patrol team arrived the scene.

9 Nigerian students in Ukraine were earlier this week, kidnapped in the Ukrainian city of Lugansk.
Ukrainian news agencies say militants abducted the Nigerian students on Monday and have been holding them as prisoners at an occupied government security building. The city is deep inside rebel-
held territory, close to the Russian border.

The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State, Mr Ambrose Aisabor, yesterday, paraded two suspects, among others, for dealing in human parts.
The third person paraded was said to be an accomplice.
The commissioner told newsmen that the two suspects were arrested with human head, leg and hand in Tabira village, Okuta in Baruten Local Government Area of the state.
Aisabor said the suspects, Amos Kareem and Abubakar Ladan, were arrested following a tip-off, stressing that during investigation they confessed to the crime.

Lagos State Confirms First Possible Case Of Ebola Virus

The Lagos State Government has confirmed a possible case of Ebola Virus, which is been currently investigated while treatment is on for the 40 year old Liberian, who is now a suspect, and a possible 30 others who may have had contact.
The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Public Health, Dr Yewande Adeshina, in a briefing noted that the 40 year old Liberian is in a private hospital in the Obalende area of the State.
Dr Adeshina also noted that the hospital housing the Liberian has been cordoned off and the victim isolated.

Air Algerie light #AH5017 Seen ‘Falling’ In Northern Mali

The missing Air Algiers plane with 116 people on board was seen “falling” in the region of Gossi, in northern Mali, the head of the emergency investigation into the flight said on Thursday.

“A witness informed us they had seen the plane falling at 0150 (GMT and local time Thursday),” said General Gilbert Diendiere, coordinator of the crisis unit established in Ouagadougou to try and find the jet.

“We are in contact with the witness and we intend to survey the site” to verify the information, he added.

“We believe this information is accurate as we have compared it to radar images showing the flight path until the plane disappeared,” Diendiere said.

Another bomb has just gone off on new road, Sabongeri Kano, at a luxurious car park, MDB can confirm.
The blast which went off about 30 minutes ago appears to have been targeted at travellers who crowded the park,  most of whom were travelling to spend small Sallah-commemorating the end of Ramadan fasting'with their families.
In fact, the MDB I-reporter who works with an NGO in Kano said a colleague travelling to Ibadan escaped death by the whiskers.

A new report by Punch reveals how her young woman  was sent to the world beyond untimely by her boyfriend because he coveted her property. Read below:
A businesswoman, identified as Lizzy, has been found dead at her apartment on the Odusanya Oduguwa Crescent, Green Estate, Amuwo Odofin Area of Lagos State.
The incident happened on Saturday morning.
Sources say that the 39-year-old indigene of Anambra State was murdered in cold blood by her boyfriend who also carted away her money, ATM cards, jewellery and a Range Rover Sport.
Our correspondent learnt from a police source that Lizzy, an executive in a networking firm, was planning to travel to the United States on Thursday (today) when she was strangled by the suspect.

Algerian aviation authorities have lost contact with an Air Algerie aircraft en route from Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso to Algiers, about 50 minutes after take-off, the APS state news agency reported on Thursday.
An Algerian official told Reuters that the missing plane, an Airbus A320, was carrying 110 passengers and six crew.

Palpable fear has gripped residents of Elerinko Estate in Ijoko-Ota in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State as suspected robbers threatened to attack them.
The robbers, who reportedly pasted the notice of their impending visit to the estate, advised the residents, in their interest to make cash available during their visit without which they threatened to descend heavily on them.
It is gathered that the suspected robbers pasted the letters on buildings, electric poles and other strategic places in the estate last Saturday, before dawn.

"I was personally involved in a clearly targeted bomb attack today along Ali Akilu Road, Kawo – Kaduna about 2:30pm on my way to Daura.
The unfortunate event, clearly an assassination attempt, came from a fast moving vehicle that made many attempts to overtake my security car but was blocked by my escort vehicle. We reached the market area of Kawo where he took advantage of our slowing down and attempted to ram my car and instantly denoted the bomb which destroyed all the three cars in our convoy. Continue...Unfortunately, when I came out of my vehicle I saw many dead bodies littered around. They were innocent people going about their daily business who became victims of mass murder.
Thank God for His mercy, I came out unhurt but with three of my security staff sustaining minor injuries – they have been treated in hospital and discharged.

Nigeria Announce Final U-20 Women Squad For World Cup

Nigeria U-20 women coach Peter Dedevbo has announced his 21-player-squad for the 2014 Fifa U-20 Women’s World Cup finals.
The Falconets will be making their seventh appearance in this competition and have been drawn in the Group C with Mexico, Korea Republic and England.

After weeks of speculation, President Goodluck Jonathan has finally named Osita Chidoka, the former Corps Marshall of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, as new Aviation Minister.
Mr Chiboka replaces Stella Odua who was sacked by President Jonathan on February 12th, 2014 after a series of investigative reports done by Saharareporters exposed her involvement in a web of certificate scandals, as well as the scandalous purchase of two BMW armored cars for $1.6 million.
Mr. Chidoka was sworn in Wednesday alongside Abubakar Olanrewaju, who was appointed National Planning Minister.
Mr. Olanrewaju, from Kwara State, replaces Shamsudeen Usman, who was removed last September.

But for divine providence, Nigerians may have been mourning the death of one of APC chieftain Gen Muhammadu Buhari, said to have been caught in one of the Twin Kaduna blasts that happened earlier today, a reliable REPORT reveals.
The former head of state is said to have escaped death by the whiskers after his car was caught in the blast that occurred at the Kawo Area of Kaduna State.
